Lenka - Roll With The Punches

So appropriate for me to hear right now...I've been kinda "grouchy" lately...

As a coworker said last night, "I miss Sunny, Happy Jodi. Bring her back!" I totally agree...

Sorry, mates! Will try better...

However, there is no try. Only do or do not.

Ingrid Michaelson - You and I

As entertaining as my spring has been, I like the idealism of this song, and still believe in falling in love...

....if only love could actually pay the bills!

"well you might be a bit confused
and you might be a little bit bruised
but baby how we spoon like no one else
so I will help you read those books
if you will soothe my worried looks
and we will put the lonesome on the shelf"

And then, when that happens, love will produce more wealth than necessary. So:

let's get rich and give everybody nice sweaters

then, with the stamping feet, clapping hands and lack of strings:

"oh, lets get rich and buy our parents homes in the south of France
let's get rich and give everybody nice sweaters
and teach them how to dance
let's get rich and build our house on a mountain
making everybody look like ants
from way up there you and I, you and I, you and I"

This is a sweet song...by a sweet songstress. I like it! :-D

Christina Perri - Arms

A friend posted this song on YouTube today...and it was exactly what I needed to hear at exactly the right moment... Be-U-Tee-Ful!

"I hope you see right through my walls..."
"...You put your arms around me and I'm home...

I love it when a new song not only makes you cry, but heals your wounds with hope all in the same three and a half minutes.

Angus and Julia Stone - Mango Tree

I've been feeling lately like I'm not doing a good job of this "grown-up" thing. On paper, I am basically failing: consumer debt keeps growing, making just above minimum wage, still no assets, no relationship, no children, no clear career path, only an undergrad, etc., etc. Of course, there are many my age even further behind, and many younger further ahead...

The truth of the matter is that it's less about being a "grown-up" on paper and more about just being comfortable with the choices you make everyday. At times, I feel like I'm going in circles rather than actually getting anywhere. However, as a cyclist, I know that the wheels have to turn just as much when coasting on a level path as they do when one is climbing up a mountain. It's when we're on the mountain that we feel least productive, but the view from the top is always worth it.

This song is a mark of remembering who I am. I lost myself in the work I want to be doing for my career today. It's something I find myself circling aorund again and again as I climb the mountain of my life. In my zen place, there was no music blaring from the radio, no podcast trying to educate me on some social aspect of our world...and I just focused.

This is what this song means to me: focus.

It's great...

Christina Perri ~ Bang Bang Bang

Sometimes, when your heart is broken, you take all the blame for it. The best thing to do, though, is to see the reality of the other person - and play a really angry tune on their behalf!

Dedicated to such a good friend of mine, who should never have been treated the way she did. I hope karma catches up to those who have scorned her, just as it comes in handy for myself...

Don't just taste the rainbow - find the silver lining of that raincloud! :-D

Bright Eyes-Easy/Lucky/Free

This morning, I realized how lucky I was. Monday morning and I was more than excited to get to work...that's when you know you're in the right job!

Somedays, you just need to hear a good Bright Eyes song... and somedays, you just need to be excited for the regular routine...

Missed Me - The Dresden Dolls

Occasionally vulgar, but always set to a jumpy beat, the Dresden Dolls are quickly becoming my go-to band for dark, sarcastic pick-me-ups...it's a good call...

Sara Bareilles - Love Song

The other day, I received some great advice from a good friend, when I wasn't even asking for it. That's how you know you're besties...

This song came on while in the grocery store for 15% Tuesday this week. I hadn't heard it for much too long and felt like it matched the advice I needed to hear this morning. It's funny how we all know something to be true, we just forget about it until somebody else points it out to us in a way that we can understand based on the current situation. This is why we need social interaction...and communication. All very good things to learn about today!

Also, I love this lady! I love a lotta lady singers! This makes me happy inside ... and out!

Say Anything ~ I Love You More Than I Hate My Period

A few weeks ago, a friend of mine put on her iPod and walked to work. Along the journey, this song began to play. She looked down at the title in anticipation, trying to determine which song it was.
"I Love You More Than I Hate..." it began to say.
"What?!? What could one possibly hate?" my friend pondered.
The text moved. "Love You More Than I Hate My..."
"Oh, 'my parents'? That makes sense for the emo song," she thought.
As the text continued to scroll along, the next letter "P" confirmed this thought. But, it continued to scroll. And soon, the last word was revealed.
"Ah! Period. Ha ha ha ha ha!"

And that is how I came across this song. I feel it is only appropriate for a Wednesday...

P!nk - Stupid Girls

There may not be enough orange or green out there, but at least we can all still enjoy a little P!nk...

Clare Maguire ~ The Shield And The Sword

I just randomly stumbled upon this lady tonight...I hope I hear more of her. Nay, I'm sure I'll hear more of her in the near future. Expect to hear more about her in the next few weeks. I love her voice! Amazing!

The Flatliners ~ Eulogy

May 1, 2011 may become just another date for schoolchildren to remember when they learn about the "War on Terror" that began the history of this century.
Is this the end to 9/11?!?
No. It's just another date.
However, I felt that this song was most appropriate to recall the innocent lives lost on that day.

Part of me worries, though, that this is not over. Nay, part of me knows that it isn't over. This song is a heartfelt homage to the passing of a dear person. To many - mostly members of Al Quida - Osama Bin Laden was a dear person. Every story has two sides, as does every war. So, I know that this war is not over... War is never over.

So, I fought with myself about posting this song tonight. It may offend some people, rightly so. I know that this song does not make me think of bin Laden, Hitler, or any other "evil dictator" who has died on the first of May. However, war makes me think of death, as I think it should make everybody. Perhaps if more people thought of losing their loved ones when they thought about controlling others through violence, conquest and power, there would be less war. Until that happens, I'll remain a lover and not a fighter...

Be the change you wish to see in this world.
